Wastewater Treatment Plant Sturgeon Bay Utilities (SBU) wastewater plant serves as a regional treatment facility for many of the municipalities and waste haulers in Door County. Utilizing a fairly unique temperature phased anaerobic digestion process (TPAD), this plant converts flows of waste sludge into Class A biosolids of Exceptional Quality (EQ).

The end product is used at a local nursery to provide a nutrient-rich soil for growing trees and plants. The EQ biosolids produced by SBU are similar in composition to the Mil-Organite fertilizer product sold by the City of Milwaukee for both commercial and residential use.
