Beware of phantom load (10/15/2014)

Some appliances and electronics – like televisions, stereos, computers and gaming consoles – use energy even when they’re off; as long as they are plugged in. All together these “vampire” devices account for about 5% of home electricity use. Which is 5% you could be saving.

Be sure to unplug your electronics when they’re not in use. Or, try plugging those “vampire” devices into a power strip that you can turn on and off, make saving energy easier. In addition, be sure to choose energy efficient appliances and products with an ENERGY STAR label.

ENERGY STAR products can use as little as one watt of power when on stand-by and use 20-50% less power than conventional items. Want more information? Contact us today for more ways to help you save all year long.
