Public Fire Protection on Vacant Lots (6/15/2012)

Effective April 1, 2012, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission approved a revised tariff for Sturgeon Bay Utilities regarding Public Fire Protection (PFP) charges (Schedule F-1). Under Wisconsin Statutes 196.03(3), the City of Sturgeon Bay has elected to make charges for PFP applicable to non-general service customers who own property that is located both within the municipal limits and in an area where the utility has an obligation to provide water for public fire protection.

Because no other utility charges apply to these vacant properties, the PFP charges will be billed quarterly rather than monthly as with general service customers.  Per the tariff, each parcel is billed at the 5/8-inch meter rate, or $3.56 per month.
