Cove Road Project Begins
This winter SBU started the reconstruction of the electric distribution lines on Cove Road. The project includes the re-stringing of primary wire and replacement of approximately 25 poles and transformers. The replacement of this equipment is needed to accommodate an upgrade in the primary distribution voltage from 2,400 volts to 7,200 volts.
The completion of this project will also signify the end of an era. Cove Road is the last remaining part of SBU's territory serviced at 2,400 volts. With the completion of this conversion SBU will be able to eliminate some outdated inventory and focus on other upgrades and improvements to the 7,200 volt system.
The old poles being replaced will be removed this spring after the local communication companies transfer their facilities to the new poles. Lawn restoration and final landscaping will also be completed as soon as possible.
