1st Annual MEUW Lineman's Rodeo

On Saturday, October 14, 2006, the Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW) hosted the 1st Annual MEUW Linemanís Rodeo in Menasha, WI.

This event took place at Jefferson Park along the shores of Lake Winnebago where municipal electric utility rodeo teams, representing seven different communities, competed in various electric utility related events including Pole Top Rescue, Transformer Change Out, Elbow Assemblies, Insulator Change Out and a written Safety and Knowledge Challenge.

Safety & proper work procedures were judged and points representing team performance in individual events as well as overall team scores for combined events were tallied. Trophies and plaques were awarded in both categories for the top three teams.

The team of employees representing Sturgeon Bay Utilities, consisting of Line Foremen Jonathan Diller and Troy Hartl, along with Lineman Chas Schink, placed 4th overall in what proved to be very stiff competition from the competing MEUW member communities. SBUís Chas Schink took home the championship trophy as the stateís top Pole Top Rescuer, the only individual award of the competition, with a total time of 2 minutes 36 seconds. Congratulations Chas!

In addition to the linemanís competition, there were activities for the entire family, including bucket truck rides, childrenís photo opportunities, concessions and live entertainment. An awards picnic, hosted by Menasha Utilities at their utility office, rounded out the day.

Many thanks go out to our employees and their devoted families and co-workers who braved the cold October breeze to cheer on their team. Special thanks and congratulations go out to the entire SBU team for a job well done! SBU is already talking about next yearís competition!
