Wild Winds Cause Outages
On Thursday, May 10, strong winds and heavy rain kicked many of SBU’s emergency procedures into high gear. The wind pushed many trees and branches into our power lines, interrupting service for as many as a few hundred customers in SBU’s service territory. The hardest-hit areas included Lake Michigan Drive and the Idlewild areas.
Our line crews were in the field from early morning until about 9:30 p.m. when the last service of the day was restored. Our sincerest thanks go out to the many people and organizations that made this weather event manageable for our customers:
Dick and Scott from Algoma Public Utilities who drove up to Sturgeon Bay after a long day at their own community to help in restoring service to our customers.
The crews from Dave’s Tree Service who were called in to clear trees from the power lines, especially along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
The employees at Fatzo’s and Sonny’s restaurants who supplied food to keep our crews going over the course of a long day.
The radio stations and media outlets who help us to keep the public informed on weather conditions and the state of our systems.
Finally, line workers, supervisors and administrative staff who ultimately have the most to do with restoring electric service to our community.
Thanks again to all, and we’ll be ready to do the same thing the next time bad weather strikes!
