Winter Moratorium to End April 15th.

Utility Customers Must Make Arrangements for Late Payments by April 15

One of the advantages of being a locally owned, not-for-profit utility is the ability to work directly with customers in the community and for SBU, that means keeping the lights and heat on for individuals and families on tight budgets.

Throughout the year, utility employees can help customers make arrangements to catch up on late payments. But as winter comes to an end, its especially important that customers contact the utility to avoid disconnection.

In Wisconsin, electric utilities may not disconnect service from Nov. 1 to April 15 during the cold winter months. However, utilities may issue final disconnection notices after April 15.

We understand that some of our customers face situations that make it difficult to pay the bills. Wed much rather work with our customers to find a solution than disconnect service, said Jim Stawicki, General Manager. It starts with making a phone call or stopping by our office.

Customers may call the utility at (920) 746-2820 or visit the utility office at 230 E Vine Street Monday through Friday.

The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) provides assistance for heating costs, electric costs and energy crisis situations to approximately 225,000 Wisconsin households annually. Households must meet income and other requirements to qualify for a one-time heat or electric payment between Oct. 1 and May 15, or as long as funding is available. Go to www.homeenergyplus.wi.gov or call 1-866-HEATWIS (432-8947) or for more information.
